Flex
Flex is a new-build house in Colombia structured around two clear and complementary architectural ideas. The first is a pair of thickened walls that “flex” along the plan, integrating storage, services and structure. This strategy minimises freestanding furniture, maximises spatial efficiency and allows living spaces to remain open, adaptable and uncluttered.
The second idea is a pair of courtyard lightwells that organise the house around light, air and vegetation. Open to the tropical Colombian climate, these courtyards draw daylight deep into the plan while enabling passive cooling and natural cross-ventilation.
The house was delivered in close collaboration with local Colombian artisans and craftspeople, using bespoke detailing and construction techniques. Together, these translate local vernacular traditions into a contemporary architectural language rooted in place, climate and making.
